Mildronate in bodybuilding

The drug, sold under the trade name Mildronate, Mildrocard, THR, Midolate or Meldonium, is a drug that improves metabolism and provides tissue energy. It was invented to control plant growth. In the nineties, the medication began to be actively used by athletes. Meldonium was taken as legal light doping.

In 2015, because of the scandal, absolutely the whole world spoke about Meldonia. The World Anti-Doping Agency has added this prescription drug to the banned list. This led to the fact that more than seventeen percent of athletes from Russia were suspended from participation in competitions of international importance.

pharmachologic effect

Bodybuilders take Meldonium, since a medicinal product has the following positive effect:

  • reduces fatigue;
  • increases strength indicators;
  • improves productivity;
  • protects the heart muscle and myocardium;
  • prevents the accumulation of fatty acids by cells;
  • activates glycolysis.

In pharmacology, Meldonium is often called a modulator of metabolism, the effect of which is comparable to insulin. It is proved that a drug is able to have the following effects on the human body:

  • accelerate recovery processes after training and competition;
  • increase endurance indicators;
  • protect from the negative effects of stressful situations;
  • stimulate the active central nervous system.

These properties of the drug, of course, help the athlete become more effective.

How to take Mildronate

The drug is available in two forms - capsules and injections. Meldonium is sold in almost every pharmacy in Eastern Europe. The exact dosage for athletes involved in disciplines such as bodybuilding and powerlifting is calculated by the athlete’s own mass. The main recommendation for the daily rate is that it should not be more than 5000 micrograms.

Drink meldonium half an hour before training and drink plenty of water. Take it only once a day. The dosage is calculated based on the fact that for every kilogram of its own weight should be 20 micrograms. The minimum duration of the course is 42, and the maximum allowable - 90 days. Further, be sure to take a break at least a month.

Side effects

Doctors advise against taking Meldonium for those people who have impaired central nervous system function and have liver or kidney diseases, since it is not only able to aggravate these ailments, but also provoke the development of new ones.

If the athlete exceeds the recommended daily dosage or is intolerant to the drug, the following negative consequences may occur:

  • tachycardia;
  • skin court;
  • low blood pressure;
  • increased excitability;
  • dyspeptic pressure;
  • nosebleeds;
  • headaches and dizziness.

To exclude the possibility of developing these side effects, it is necessary not only to observe the dosage, to make sure that there is no individual intolerance, but also to store the drug correctly. It must be kept at room temperature, away from moisture. Do not put the medicine in the refrigerator.

Mildronate reviews

The international scandal that occurred in 2015 made the drug known only in narrow circles. The reaction turned out to be completely opposite, because, instead of avoiding taking this medication, the demand for it began and continues to grow. But Mildronate is popular mainly among Russian and East European athletes.

There are no unambiguous reviews about the effect of this drug on the bodybuilder's body. Most write about him in a rather restrained manner. In addition, there is no “fresh” scientific evidence to prove its true effectiveness today, but the existing ones are outdated.

In Western Europe, the drug was practically never used before, but its inclusion in the banned list served as an excellent advertisement for Mildronate. However, after trying the medication, athletes in most cases remain dissatisfied, because they do not feel any significant effect.
